Instructional Focus Strategies
Since the initial development of the instructional focus, extensive work has been
completed by Westminster staff in the areas of defining best practices. Research,
training and implementation in before, during and after reading strategies has ensued.
From this experience, the following belief statement was developed:
We know that students become skillful and engaged readers when they:
- Connect with a text prior to reading,
- Actively think about and comprehend the text as they are reading, and
- Meaningfully respond to the text in a variety of ways once they have finished reading.
